Yates: Home Form Integral To Success

14 August 2014

Mark Yates admits he cannot wait to be back in action at Whaddon Road this weekend.

Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates speaking to www.ctfc.com earlier this afternoon:

"I'm confident and I'm looking forward to it. It's a home game, a new season and we're coming off the back of two decent performances and one very good result so now we want to be able to impress the home supporters and give them something to cheer about. The players are in really good spirits, the training has been good and we're looking forward to being back at Whaddon Road.

"I don't think there's any pressure at home. Last year is gone and now we all want to do really well at our home ground. Success depends on our home performances but it's a new group and I'm really happy with the workrate they put in last week and if they carry that on then we'll win more matches than we lose.

"I think the relationship between the players and fans is growing. We did a few things differently in pre-season and the Open Day was very good but there has got to be that connection between the group of players and the supporters because we're heading in a new direction. The key to the two performances they have put in so far has been about working together, putting in 100% and putting in the effort for the shirt. I think the players have done themselves proud and the aim is to now keep that going and improve as a footballing team.

"Everyone bar Asa (Hall) should be available. We've just finished training and they are all lively after Tuesday's performance. Everyone is raring to go.

"Joe Hanks has done great over the last two games coming on as a sub, scoring the goal that he did and then going to Brighton and playing as well as he did. We have a core of more experienced players and we also have a good crop of young talent who, when they're called upon, will need to put in performances. If we can get the response from them like we have done from Joe then we will all be happy.

"Accrington beat us at home last year and the year before so we know they're a good side. We know what they're about and we have had them watched for a couple of games. They are a dangerous team and they did quite well at Leeds in midweek so we have to be respectful of that but it's important to concentrate on ourselves. It's a game we go into buoyed by last week and hopeful we can get something positive from the game."
