Yates: Energy & Desire

12 February 2013

Mark Yates pleased with three points and now wants his players to build upon tonight's win.

Robins chief Mark Yates speaking to the media following this evening's 2-1 win over Southend:

"We've now got to make sure we don't let ourselves down and put in a good performance on Saturday against Aldershot. We didn't perform Saturday but we did perform heroically tonight because we knew Southend would be tough. We didn't start the second half as well as we would have liked but we weathered the pressure.

"The players knew I was disappointed with Saturday's performance because we need to be pushing on but today we had energy and desire which is what we normally get. We started well.

"I thought Benno was really good tonight and I'm pleased he got his first goal. He worked well with Byron up front tonight particulary in the first half. Paul took a whack and he has a really sore dead leg. He could have gone off at half time but he manfully carried on but we needed more mobility up there in the end.

"I wanted to get us passing again and we perhaps played a little lop-sided tonight but I thought Russ Penn was very good tonight and he competed well. We carried threats and it was pleasing to see the game out.

"Marlon is my player. He was nearly on his way and I would never stand in his way but we have had very little contact with Swindon and I want Marlon to be a big part of us between now and the end of the season.

"It was a good three points because this is a tough place to come."
