Yates: Still Game On

2 May 2013

Mark Yates believes it is all to play for as Cheltenham head into the second leg a goal down.

Robins chief Mark Yates speaking to the media following this evening's 1-0 loss:

"We're 1-0 down at half time in this semi-final. We knew we would have to win our home game and we have one of the best records in the league there. I'm probably a happier man that Aidy (Boothroyd) right now because we got a battering and we didn't play anywhere near our best but to be fair to my back four, Scotty has only had one save to make. We were nowhere near our best but it's game on Sunday.

"Michael Hector has gone to hospital for an X-ray and hopefully it's only precautionary but whatever happens we'll deal with it.

"We had to dig in and credit to Northampton because they were miles better than us but it is 1-0 and we have a chance.

"We always knew we would have to defend manfully and we did that but we have probably had two better chances than they have had all game with Benno's header and a penalty shout but it is still game on. they were celebrating at the end like they had won it, and fair play to them for that, but there's another game to go. They are a good side and we'll need to make sure we are focussed because if we win our home game then we have a chance.

"We didn't keep the ball well enough and we didn't do the things we are good at doing but we stuck at it and we didn't concede a second.

"The fans were brilliant and kept encouraging the boys so I need another big special effort on Sunday night because we need them to roar the players on. It'll be tight and Northampton will have their moments but we need the fans to get behind us, stick with us and I am sure they will."
