Yates: The Win Was Needed

7 December 2013

Mark Yates happy with three points after seeing his side topple Morecambe for a second time this season.

Robins manager Mark Yates speaking to the media following this afternoon's 1-0 win over Morecambe:

"I had a little moan at half time because we were creating the chances and we even had 7 in 10 seconds! I thought we had three or four really good opportunities, Jermaine should have done better with one, Byron had a good header saved and those are the moments that can be key defining moments in games so we have to start being more ruthless but to be fair we kept at it.

"They (Morecambe) had one chance during the game and to be fair they could have scored it but he (Drummond) missed the target. They're at home but we've come up here and pretty much bossed the game. We played some decent stuff, it was a good away performance and we got the win we needed.

"I watched the goalmouth scramble at half time and it looked even worse on the video! It happens sometimes and we've had four or five chances in the melee but fortunately we're talking about a win rather than a draw which is what we are after.

"I've got some good players in the squad and the only way they're going to show that is by winning games. We are 8 games unbeaten in the league so we just have to keep pressing the button and asking for more because the group is getting stronger and playing better. We are working really hard for points and three points.

"We have to deal with reality and at the start of the season we didn't win as many games as we would have liked and we kept conceding some stupid goals. We have tightened up in areas and winning games breeds confidence. We're far from the finished article and there's plenty of improvement to come."
