Yates: Two Points Dropped

14 December 2013

Mark Yates believes his side didn't play the conditions well enough in the second half after a 2-2 draw here.

Robins chief Mark Yates speaking to the media following this afternoon's 2-2 draw with Hartlepool United:

"The first goal we conceded has taken the wind out of our sails and they were two bad goals. I thought we were great in the first half and we deserved a 2 goal lead. Obviously conditions were tricky and it was bouncy because it was blowing a gale right down the middle of the pitch but we did everything well in the first half. Once we conceded the first goal we stopped doing that and they were poor goals on our part. You have to take it and move onto next week but we were desperate for three points and a performance.

"We didn't play the conditions well. To be fair it's difficult out there and Hartlepool were at their most dangerous when they had a goal kick but unfortunately we got caught by two bad goals and it has cost us a few points.

"Jermaine and Byron caused them all sorts of problems and I thought Kemar had a good game too. You can't switch off and it has cost us the three points we needed so it's a lesson learnt that we cannot switch off. We felt we needed energy in the second half because we knew it wouldn't be a game where we could play our passing football but we thought Russell Penn's energy would drive them on. I have no problem with the team selected and the substitutions we made but we have defended not as well as we have done and we have conceded two sloppy goals.

"Our game management has got to be better and you have got to see games out. We have got experience out there and some good players but we didn't see a game we should have won through."
