Yates: Learning Experience For Young Players

12 July 2014

Mark Yates speaking to the media following the pre-season friendly away at Evesham United.

Cheltenham Town chief Mark Yates speaking to the press following this afternoon's match away at Evesham:

"Jamie Cureton came down and trained with us last week and he was looking fit, strong and as good as ever. It might be an option but we gave him a game today. We didn't have a problem with Jamie last season so if he's an option for us then we'll see where we go.

"Taking everything into consideration I think he would be good to have around for our forward players. He looked really sharp in a couple of days training but it didn't fall for him today.

"In the first half I think some of the younger lads showed where they are in terms of being ready for league football. We made a decision to play with a stronger eleven to start with last night so it was always going to be difficult so it was all about a learning experience for them. It was a tough first half but the players came on from last night and I thought hey were excellent and showed what we were about.

"It was nice to get an equaliser because you don't want to lose against your local team but the pleasing thing was that the players that came on made a real difference and played some decent stuff.

"We are going to get everybody in Monday and see where we are after that. Maybe around Tuesday we'll sort a few out be it positive or negative.

"I've got to make a phone call about the defender tonight. I'm not sure whether it will happen in the next few days but I'm hopeful we'll be able to get something done. I'd wait a couple of weeks for him. I don't want to but I would if I had to.

"I'd like a winger, a defender and a back-up goalkeeper whether it's loans or whatever. We are exploring every option. We have had two really tough weeks where, they worked their socks off and they have shown a great spirit and attitude together. They have pulled each other through some tough sessions culminating in some really good stuff last night.
