Yates: Defeat Hurts Me

18 January 2014

Mark Yates apologised to the supporters following the Robins first half display.

Robins manager Mark Yates speaking to the media following this afternoon's 2-1 defeat against Accrington Stanley:

"Against anybody, you can't play like we did in the first half. We were too lethargic and we just weren't good enough and we conceded two sloppy goals. In the second half, we've had a go.

"It's not what we're about. It's not what we want the team and the club to be about. It's cost us three points, it's cost us at least a point. It's a defeat and it hurts me, my staff and I hope it hurts the players.

"I apologise to the supporters for our first half performance. I can't  give them any credit for the second half as the damage was already done. If they had got something out of it I could have given them a pat on the back but to praise them because they had a go second half doesn't  cut the mustard for me.

"I told them it was going to be a tough game, I warned them but we just had a lethargic first half performance. It's cost us.

"We started the game with a 4-4-2 formation and for whatever reason it didn't suit us. I decided to try Jermaine and Kemal a little bit wider but we didn't work hard enough.

"The two goals we conceded were so poor on our part.

"In the second half, we showed some spirit but they had to. We had some decent chances but there were too many that went begging.

"We're disappointed, we have to pick ourselves up and we have to go again.

"There are places up for grabs now and it's up to people to nail it down and stop the run of defeats. We've got a tough game next week against Plymouth and we'll be working hard to be ready and turn our form around."
