Mark Yates reveals that more signings are set to follow Jamie Cureton through the door.
Robins chief Mark Yates made his first signing of the summer yesterday afternoon with the acquisition of experienced striker Jamie Cureton.Mark was present as Jamie put pen to paper on his one year contract with the club and, whilst doing so, revealed that he anticipated another new signing by the end of the week.
"I'm close to two or three signings now and there will be one by the end of the week," revealed Mark.
"Another couple might come early next week. I'll be away on my pro license but Neil will take over where I left off and we are speaking to players and agents all the time right now. It's been a bit quiet over the last month for the supporters and I understand that but I don't like shouting my mouth about who I'm talking too but hopefully we'll secure a few very soon.
"I'm delighted that Jamie signed because I think we all saw last season, even at his age, what a good player he was. He scored 23 goals last season and hopefully he can do something similar for us too. It's taken a little while but patience paid off.
"He was a threat to us all afternoon when we played Exeter at St. James Park but we managed to hold on! It has been in the pipeline for a while and he will compliment Byron (Harrison) and others that we are trying to bring to the club."
Jamie's arrival should now spark more arrivals into a Cheltenham Town squad preparing itself for another campaign in League Two for the 2013-14 season and the players themselves will report back to duty next Thursday for pre-season training.
One person who won't be reporting straight back for pre-season training is the manager himself who heads off to Turkey on Thursday to work on his UEFA Pro License.
The Pro License is a tough challenge for any manager but a necessary one for an ambitious coach looking to make waves in the game and Mark admitted he was looking forward to the challenge.
"It's interesting and it opens your eyes to different aspects of football," he explained.
"I probably don't want to go to Turkey in all honesty but we've been given assurances by the FA that there will be no problems security-wise. There are a lot of good people on the course and it's good to network too. I'll be learning different things from different people but it'll be hard work because I have an itinerary that runs from eight in the morning until one at night but it should be good."
