Race Day 1 - Our Preview

11 March 2014

We run down the top odds from Sky Bet available to you ahead of the first day of racing at this year's Cheltenham Festival.

Flying the flag for Gloucestershire in the big race of the day at the Cheltenham Festival today – the Stan James Champion Hurdle – is The New One.

Trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies at Naunton and ridden by his 21-year-old son Sam, Sky Bet is offering 3/1 on the local team scoring a victory in one of the toughest fields in years.

The Irish favourite Hurricane Fly, out to race into the record books, with win number three is also 3/1 while Robins fans might look at another Irish runner Our Conor as a lucky bet at 4/1.

In the opener the Sky Bet Supreme Novices Hurdle – the 100/30 favourite is Irving, which is trained by Paul Nicholls in Somerset, and once again the local money will be going on the Twiston-Davies team who have Splash of Ginge at 20/1.

Rock on Ruby in the Arkle Challenge at 14.05 has to catch the eye of every Robins fan and the Sky Bet price is 9/2.

Another local favourite Jonjo O’Neill has two of the favourites for the Handicap Chase at 14.40 with the champ AP McCoy on board Alfie Sherrin at 8/1 while stablemate Holywell is 9/1 with Sky Bet.

The outsider of the day to cheer on is Little King Robin in the Mares’ Hurdle at 16.00 – an each way bet on this at 100/1 could pay for next year’s season ticket!
