Today marks the 15th year anniversary that Cheltenham Town were promoted into the Football League.
15 years ago today Cheltenham Town secured one of the greatest moments in the club's history.A 3-2 victory over Yeovil Town here at Whaddon Road on Thursday 22 April 1999 secured Football League status for Steve Cotterill's red and white army for the first time in the club's history and they did so as champions of the Nationwide Conference.
Owen Pickard's opener had actually given the Glovers a 2nd minute opener but Jamie Victory's equaliser two minutes later brought the Robins right back into proceedings. Neil Grayson's 22nd minute header gave Cheltenham the lead on the night as they set about making history but still Yeovil fought back and Warren Patmore's goal from the penalty spot minutes after half time threatened to derail Cheltenham's promotion party.
What came next was truly magical if you were a Robins fan.
Yeovil were reduced to ten men and their goalkeeper was having the game of his life but on 90 minutes a freekick was dropped into the area and the rising figures of Mike Duff and Jamie Victory rose (who do you think it was?) to head home the winner and what is quite possibly the most famous goal in Cheltenham Town's history (pictured above).
The scenes after were magnificent. A sea of red and white flooded the pitch, the party had begun and our 15 year Football League journey to the present day began. Cheltenham Town had arrived on the big stage.
