Jamie Cureton Departs Cheltenham Town

7 May 2014

Veteran striker Jamie Cureton has been released following a meeting with Mark Yates this afternoon.

Jamie Cureton has today been released from the club following a one to one meeting with Mark Yates this afternoon.

The former Bristol Rovers and Norwich striker's contract is up this summer and he met with Cheltenham chief Mark Yates earlier today to discuss his future. Jamie will now become a free agent after making 36 appearances this season and scoring 11 goals.

Mark Yates believes Jamie has been a model professional both on and off the pitch but admitted he wanted to move in a new direction this summer.

"I want to freshen it up and I want a younger squad," explained Mark.

"Jamie has scored 11 goals and could have had a few more for us but I just want to go in a slightly different direction. I've felt at times that I have tried to accommodate two strikers when perhaps it hasn't suited the rest of the team.

"He has been a model pro for us in terms of his attitude because he is first in at the training ground and looks after himself. I just need to freshen it up as much as I can and that's the route I have gone down. I want to wish him good luck. He has scored a lot of goals in his career and I'm sure he will be aiming to score a few more."

Jamie, 38, joined the club last summer on a one year contract following his release from Exeter City. His debut goal game on his debut for the club in a 2-2 draw at home to Burton Albion but whilst scoring his goal he dislocated his shoulder which caused him to be sidelined until late September. He hit a major milestone in his career away at Dagenham & Redbridge in October after scoring his 250th career goal and he has continued to be a big influence both on the pitch and off it too.

We would like to thank Jamie for his efforts over the past year and we wish him well for the next chapter in his fantastic career.
