Howarth: Disappointing & Frustrating

1 February 2014

Neil Howarth disappointed with another lost lead and another three points surrendered.

Robins assistant manager Neil Howarth speaking to the media following this afternoon's 1-1 draw with Northampton:

"Frustration and anger. It's happened too many times. We have taken the lead too many times and then not gone on to win games and it's just another mistake that has cost us picking up a deserved victory.

"We certainly created the most chances because they only had two attempts on goal I believe or maybe three but whilst it's only 1-0 and we're not killing teams off then they still have a chance to get something out of the game. Whilst it's only 1-0 and you make a mistake like we did for the goal then it affects to result.

"It was a soft goal. We weren't set up right from the throwing and they've taken it quickly but not quick enough to catch us out. It was a hopeful ball in I thought between the keeper and defenders and, in that area, we should have been on the end of it. Frustrating, disappointed and angry.

"I thought the performance wasn't too bad at all. We were certainly creating chances and we were passing the ball. The pitch and the conditions were unbelievably bad, we were playing a team that won't finish bottom of the league and we played them at the worst time when the new manager has just come in and they get a lift as well as new signings. It wasn't a good time to play them but we certainly did enough to win the game but, like I said, if we're missing chances and then conceding goals like that at the other end then it's a massive effort to win the game.

"We have not won enough at home. We've taken the lead enough times. Sometimes it's the hardest thing in the world to come back if you concede a goal but we've just been too easy to score against especially at home this season. Perhaps teams come here now set up differently because all of a sudden a draw is a decent result coming here but I think they get a little bit nervous. Whilst it's 0-0 and it's quiet out there then there is an expectation to just go and win the game but we've looked nervous. You can almost sense something is going to happen whilst it was 0-0 or especially when we are 1-0 up.

"Lee Lucas did very well. He was neat, tidy and competitive when he had to be and he did well."
