Deaman Becomes A Robin

21 July 2014

Jack Deaman has today signed a one-year contract with the club following a trial spell.

Young defender Jack Deaman has this morning signed a one-year contract here at Whaddon Road.

Jack, 21, has been enjoying a trial spell here in pre-season but has suitably impressed Mark Yates and his backroom staff and has been rewarded with a contract.

"Jack is here to provide stiff competition for places in defence," said Mark.

"We need a few defenders in the building and he can play in a few different positions so we're delighted to have signed him. He is a young lad who we have known for a while when he was with Birmingham and he was perhaps a little unlucky that we didn't take him last year.

"He has grown, matured and strengthened up. Jack does still need work in the gym as a defender but there is plenty there to like."

This is the second spell that Jack will have with the club having had a loan spell with the club back in the 2012-13 season but he didn't make an appearance during that time.

Jack is a product of the Birmingham City Academy having joined the Blues setup in 2011 having had a spell at Wrexham's Academy. He had a loan spell with ourselves but spent time the start of last season on trial with Torquay United before injuring himself unfortunately on a rabbit hole whist training with the Gulls.

That injury was a step back for the young central defender but he linked up with Eastbourne Borough in the Conference South division. Jack was offered a place at Eastbourne again but chose to link up with the Robins on trial in a bid to win himself a spot back in the Football League.

Jack has been given squad number 15 for the 2014-15 season. Watch Jack's full exclusive interview on Robins Player here.
