The 37 year-old striker will leave Exeter at the end of his current contract and will link up with his new team-mates for pre-season training on Thursday 27 June.

The former Norwich, Bristol Rovers and Reading striker arrived at the Abbey Business Stadium this afternoon to put pen to paper on a new deal and Mark Yates was delighted to finally complete his first summer signing.

"I'm delighted we have been able to bring Jamie in," said Mark.

"We saw what he can do last season and he scored 23 goals for Exeter which is a really good return so hopefully he can do something similar for us. We are hoping that his experience can play a key role too. We have had to be patient because it has taken a bit of time but it's paid off and we're excited to have him here.

"His movement is second to none in this division and that's what we want from him."

Bristol-born Jamie began his professional career with Norwich City and scored 6 goals in 29 appearances before moving onto Bristol Rovers in 1996 with whom he had a loan spell whilst at Carrow Road. His spell at the Memorial Stadium was his most prolific with 68 goals being scored in 170 appearances. That form earned him a move to Reading in 2000 and he spent three years with the club making 111 appearances and scoring 51 goals.

Jamie's career took a twist in 2003 when he signed for South Korean club Busan IPark where he scored 4 goals in 21 appearances. He failed to settle in East Asia however and he returned to English football with QPR in 2004. Jamie spent just one year with the club scoring 6 goals in 43 appearances before moving onto Swindon Town. 7 goals in 30 appearances for the County Ground outfit and he also enjoyed a loan spell with Colchester United before joining them permanently the following season. Jamie's goals to game ratio was superb for Colchester and he scored 23 times in 44 appearances before being snapped back up by Norwich City for a second spell.

The former England youth international spent the next three years with Canaries and also had loan spells with Barnsley and Shrewsbury during that time. He had made 69 appearances and scored 16 goals before departing Norwich and linking up with Exeter City in 2010 for his first spell with the club. 41 appearances and 17 goals later and the striker switched to Leyton Orient but failed to find his scoring boots with just one goal in 19 appearances. Jamie found himself back on loan with Exeter and he returned to the club for a third, and permanent spell, in 2012.

Jamie made 42 appearances for Exeter last season and he scored 21 league goals during that time before being released by the Grecians and signing for Mark Yates' Cheltenham Town.

"I'm definitely happy to be here and it's always nice to get your future sorted out," said Jamie.

"I spoke to the manager 3-4 weeks ago before heading off on holiday but it was all agreed and it was just a case of signing the contract. Cheltenham have missed out on promotion twice in the last two years so the aim has got to be promotion and hopefully we'll be up and out of this division by this time next season. The manager has told me that he will be bringing in a few more and we should as strong, if not stronger than last season."

Jamie has played against Cheltenham Town just three times - once for Shrewsbury Town and twice last season for Exeter but Jamie's dad, Chris Cureton, also played against the Robins on four occasions for Welton Rovers, Minehead and Clevedon Town.
