VIDEO: Liverpool loanee Kevin Stewart answers questions from Cheltenham Town fans

23 January 2015

Who is the best player you have played with?

I would say Gareth Bale when I was at Tottenham. I have trained with Steven Gerrard, but never played in a game with him. I trained with Bale quite a lot as well as half a game in pre-season. In training and matches it was clear he was something special.

What is the best goal you have ever scored?

When I was a kid, playing for my Sunday League team, I got the ball in my half, dribbled in a big circle around the pitch and lobbed the goalkeeper, so I’d probably go for that one!

Who is better, Messi or Ronaldo?

Ronaldo.

What is the funniest moment of your career so far?

It’s hard to pick out anything specific, but it’s probably just my time at Tottenham in general. It was crazy every day there.

What job do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t a professional footballer?

I used to do a lot of athletics, middle distance and I was quite good at 1,500m and cross country, so maybe I’d have gone into that.

What are your aspirations for your future career?

To play as high as possible and hopefully be known as one of the best players in my position in the country, play for England and be at top level.

What made you want to join Cheltenham Town on loan?

Firstly, to play first team football, competitively. I’ve played Under-21 football for a few years now, so I needed something different. Now I am here, other things have been good and I feel attached to the club already, really wanting them to do well.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Signing for Liverpool, who were my boyhood club, and seeing players like Gerrard in training.

Do you have any pre-match rituals or superstitions?

Nothing really, apart from eating right, making sure I am hydrated and meditating a little.

What is your favourite food?

Caribbean, so a lot of rice, peas and chicken.  The food we have before games is quite plain, chicken and pasta, which I don’t really enjoy, but you have to eat it.

What is your favourite nightclub in Liverpool?

I have been out there twice and my favourite is Republic because it reminded me of London.

How did it feel to score the winning goal on your debut against Oxford United?

It was unbelievable. At first I wasn’t sure if it was my goal because it went through a lot of bodies, but I was happy when I saw the replay and knew it was definitely mine.

Which of Liverpool’s young players do you think is most destined for stardom, not including yourself, Jack Dunn or Lloyd Jones?

There are a lot to narrow it down to one, but I would say the goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux has a great chance of making it to the top. He is really talented.

What is your perfect Sunday?

It’d be something active, things with family and friends, bowling or mini golf - I don’t like sitting around too much.

What is it like being a Londoner in Liverpool and a Londoner in Cheltenham?

London and Liverpool…there aren’t too many Scousers at the club, its a good mix, but sometimes they don’t understand our lingo and vice versa! Cheltenham is obviously much quieter than London and I think we stand out in the hotel a bit for making too much noise. The hotel is good, with a pool and a gym, it has everything we need.

What is your favourite piece of skill?

I usually do about five Cryuff turns per game, so I’d say that. Sometimes it’s needed and other times it’s for no reason!

If you had the chance, would you extend your loan at Cheltenham Town for longer than a month?

When the first month comes to an end, we’ll sit down and talk, but it would certainly be good for us to stay longer and get more games, so I’d certainly think about it.

How good would it feel to get a first home win for Cheltenham Town against Luton?

It would be big. We beat Oxford away and if we can get that home win, it’d be great, so Saturday is obviously an important one for us.
