Cheltenham Town sign Shaquille McDonald on loan from Derby County

26 March 2015

Cheltenham Town have signed striker Shaquille McDonald on loan from Derby County until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old signed a two year contract with Steve McClaren's Championship promotion chasers last summer after a successful trial.

He joined Peterborough United from Chasetown in 2012 and was rewarded with a professional contract after a prolific spell in which he scored 25 goals in 10 appearances for the Posh's Under-18 and reserve sides.

McDonald will go straight into the squad to face Plymouth Argyle at Whaddon Road on Saturday.

"A couple of people have recommended Shaq and I spoke to Derby about him on Thursday," Milton said "I have seen a lot of him and heard good reports.

"His record in the Under-21s is good and he scored against some big teams. He did well at Peterborough too, scoring goals for the youth and reserve teams there.

"Derby have said he’ll be a big asset for us. He’ll run and chase things down and he’ll be a good weapon for us.

"Wes Burns is away with Wales on Saturday so we’ll see where we go with Shaq. He comes into the frame straight away."

Cheltenham have also put in an application to sign Dutch forward Andre Ntambue, who impressed during a reserve team outing against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday.

The club are waiting on advice from the Football Association and we will bring you the latest developments as they happen.

Free agent Ntambue’s last club was Royal Geants Athois in Belgium. The 23-year-old has also played in Romania, having started out at Feyenoord and Den Haag in the Netherlands.

"Andre has trained well and he did very well on Tuesday, so we like what we see," Milton said. "The paperwork has all gone in and fingers crossed it can all be sorted out.

"He's played internationally for the Dutch youth teams and has good pedigree. He'll sign to the end of the season if all goes to plan. His attitude is good and he is quick and strong."

The other trialist to play in Tuesday's training ground fixture, Ryan Burge, has not been offered terms, but the door will be open to the Cheltenham-born 26-year-old in the future.

"I like Ryan and I know him well," Milton said. "I've said to him a forward had to be a priority and he'll be welcome to carry on training with us and come back for pre-season training."
