YOUTH TEAM: See how the Academy U18s side have been getting on during pre-season

24 July 2016

Sunday 24th July

The Cheltenham Town U18s Academy have made a solid start to pre-season under new manager Ashleigh Hopkins.

A Josh Thomas penalty, and a fantastic solo effort from Lee Llewelyn, saw the Young Robins overcome Burton Albion 2-1 on Saturday to record their first win after a 2-0 defeat to Bristol City last week.

Gary Johnson was there for the last 25 minutes of the win over Burton and must have been as impressed as new manager Hopkins, who said: “I was pleased with the performance.

“It was only our second friendly but the players played with a high tempo, worked hard and showed good intent.

“We also switched play well and pressed high, and are doing well in terms of trying to replicate how the first team play with their style and system.”

A very promising Australian trialist by the name of Gez Megarry has played one half of each friendly so far and has been invited to train again with the team on Monday, as well as watch the Johnson Cup match in the evening.
